The monastery is a cool place, but today it was not only cool but it was also cold. Rain, clouds and not really what we expected from Italy... There are 20 folks involved with GeoServer, GeoNetwork, GRASS, Mapbender) but also newcomers like AtlasStyler and the research projects GeoSDI. Even the OSGeo Board and Marketing are pretty well represented for a coding event with Jeroen and myself and we are expecting Tyler later this week. Unfortunately Martin Landa could not come this year but Anne Ghishla is here thanks to GSoC and raises female representation to an ever high of three (not counting me).
The morning for the Mapbender team started with planning, Christoph Baudson explained his ideas on creating a full fledged API for Mapbender. Not only because he es tired of debugging but also because it will open up many more options for developers. Some of what he tells us goes right over my head. Well, admittedly most of it. But after some time I get the hang of it and yes, it does look promising. Right now he started up the Mapbender blog and the first post resides under node 9-O-7 - which is yet another coincidence.
Finally, all of us are getting older all the time: Uli Rothstein decided to have his 42nd birthday today and just came back with 3 * 15-bottles packs 66cl beer. He will have to prove whether he still knows The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything after finishing his share later tonight.
Praying for better weather. After all we are in a monastery, maybe some of the prayers' energy is still left.
For all Mapbender folks and who in Bolsena are on IRC at irc://freenode.net#mapbender , feel free to drop by and chat a bit if you have comments on what we are doing here.
