How about anticipation and disillusionment? I find that US English tends tobe mushier than most other English but that if you can spend enough time you can find pretty precise words. That being said, other languages can express concepts in subtly different ways. Thanks for the German lesson and the Zen lesson about change.

    Dear Arnulf.

It is nice to see that you get some revenue for your presentation work... I though this would be sufficient at the FOSSGIS in Heidelberg this Year. Good to see...

Cheers. Johannes

FOSS4G was awesome, and so many different feedback is only possible in a live community, full of diverse people, that OSGeo was able to put together. I've ended the conference dinning with a lawyer from Texas and a police officer from Brazil. Attending a geek conference? Yes, and I think they love it.

Using Paul Ramsey's metaphor, there were not only the bees (in fact making a lot of noise), and many kind of bees were there, some more social, some with more “complex social behavior”, but also beekeepers, honey lovers (and addicted), honeycomb and bee hives makers, bee traders, honey traders, etc. After all, an amazing pollination was done and we will see the results in the short term.

    Thanks Arnulf,

You made me think about what FOSS4G is, and yes, some of those complaints are right to me, when I think with my "techie brain side" and others when I do it with my "free soft supporter" one and others with my "practical/user" one.

All are faces of how we relate with Free Software and Geospatial IT depending in our needs, expectations and even contradictions. I want an OSGeo event for the tribes to boost collaboration and knowledge sharing but I also want one to show to users and decision makers what they can achieve with FOSS4G.

Well I really don't like to give to privative companies too much prominence because they don't play fair most of the time and on the long term it's (IMHO) o shoot at our foot.

Anyway, as you said, we all had fun with the conference, had good time with each other, and shared and enjoyed as much as we could, and that is a big difference with many other geo-events, that's what makes great FOSS4G.
